Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure is the Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Player of the Year as announced at the Glo CAF awards that took place yesterday evening in Lagos.
Yaya was nominated alongside fellow Ivorian Didier Drogba, of Galatasaray, and Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.
Mikel came in second, and Drogba finished in 3rd position.
In addition to Yaya Toure, Stephen Keshi won the coach of the year, and Nigeria’s goalkeeper Vincent Enyema won best goalkeeper of the year. Other awards Nigeria won on Thursday are the Most Promising Talent award through Kelechi Iheanacho, who was voted the Best Player of the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the UAE; National Team of the Year; Youth National Team of the Year and the CAF Fair Play.
Mohammed Aboutrika beat out Sunday Mba to win African based footballer of the year.
